General Motors of Canada Limited has determined that certain 1992-93 4-Wheel Drive (4WD) S 10 trucks and utility vehicles with 4.3L engines (RPO LB4 or L35; VIN Code Z or W) may have remote engine oil filter adapters that were improperly machined. The condition is internal to the adapter and would not give any outward indication of a problem. However, an improperly machined adapter could result in the engine oil not properly flowing through the oil filter and/or cooler (if equipped).
To correct this condition, dealers are to install a new remote engine oil filter adapter, and change the engine oil and oil filter.
Involved are certain 1992-93 4-Wheel Drive (4WD) S1O trucks and utility vehicles with 4.3L engines built within the following VIN breakpoints: PLANT YEAR MODEL PLANT CODE FROM THROUGH 1992 S 10 Chev W/4-WD Shreveport "8" N8100003 N8222713 1992 S 10 Chev W/4-WD Pontiac West "0" N0100003 N0164198 1992 S 10 Chev W/4-WD Moraine "2" N2100002 N2226379 1993 S 10 Chev W/4-WD Shreveport "8" P8100004 P8107350 1993 S 10 Chev W/4-WD Pontiac West "0" P0100005 P0103600 1993 S 10 Chev W/4-WD Moraine "2" P2100001 P2105818

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
