CAMPAIGN: DEALER FOLLOW-UP

ATTENTION:

SERVICE MANAGER

PLEASE HAVE ALL PERSONNEL HANDLING RECALL CAMPAIGNS READ THIS BULLETIN CAREFULLY.

This bulletin and an updated Outstanding Vehicle Listing is mailed every other month. It is imperative that you use the most current computer listing when working on campaign follow-up. All transfers must be submitted on the 2nd copy of the computer listing supplied to you with this bulletin. Also, to eliminate a large number of unnecessary phone calls, PLEASE read contents of this bulletin carefully.

RELEASE OF NEW CAMPAIGNS

When a campaign has been approved and mailing dates assigned, the campaign is "activated." This provides us with the computer printouts which are mailed to dealers with the campaign bulletin. Once a campaign has been activated (usually a week prior to Zone/Dealer mailing of bulletin), the campaign number will be reflected on credit memos, vehicle histories, etc. GMC Zone Service personnel are notified via Electronic Mail of new campaigns to be released. GMC Truck Campaign Bulletins are mailed to Zone/Dealer personnel one week prior to letters being mailed to owners.

CAMPAIGN PARTS TO OWNERS

The campaign bulletin will state when a part has been mailed to owners of record and involved dealers. This means that if your computer printout of involved vehicles shows an owner name by a VIN, that the part was mailed directly to the owner. If there is no owner name, then the part was mailed to the involved dealer.

The bulletin will also state where to order the part from. When the part is a label (emission or certification), if the existing label VIN does not match the new label or the new label was not received, the dealer should contact his/her GMC Truck Zone Service Representative. The complete VIN is required when requesting the label. The Service Representative will then request the label from the Campaign Section.

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL

Blank labels are provided for all campaigns except those where the part has been mailed directly to the owner. If, by chance, an owner does request a dealer to complete one of these campaigns, use one of the blank labels previously provided.

DO NOT REQUEST AN OWNER TO COME TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" INSTALLED.

VEHICLE OUTSTANDING REPORT

NOTE: Due to home office data format changes, some owner names and/or addresses on the enclosed printouts are out of context. In some cases the first letter of a company name may be separated from the rest of the company name. Also, the middle initial of an owner may be connected to the owner's last name.

NOTE: Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership. General Motors medium duty vehicles (which includes school buses) can be completed by either GMC or Chevrolet dealers regardless of make. Please contact your GMC Truck Division service representative if you have problems with your warranty claims.

Enclosed are two copies of the Vehicle Outstanding Report. This report (covering all active campaigns) is provided to involved dealers every other month.

o Campaigns are considered "Active" for 24 months from date of initiation.

o VINs are sorted by model year, by plant and by serial number.

o Campaign Status Column: Vehicles in categories 1A (Vehicle Stolen), 1B (Owner Unknown), or 1C (Letter Undeliverable) cannot be removed from your computer listing. Vehicles are assigned status codes for your information so that we may attempt to find the current location of the vehicle.

o The source code (48 = GMC and 13 = Chevrolet) before the campaign number and dealer code is necessary because prior to July 1987 GMC Truck and Chevrolet campaign numbers on medium trucks were not concurrent.

Do not return copy of listing if no changes are made on it!

NOTE: All cards, letters, computer listings, etc. which are received filled out incorrectly or with notations written on them are sent to your GMC Truck Division service representative for handling.

OWNER NAME/ADDRESS CHANGE ------------------------- One copy of the listing should be used by your dealership to record campaign transactions and is your record of progress. When a VIN appears with no customer name and address, or you need to change a name or address, please provide complete information directly on the second copy of this listing next to the applicable VIN, so that our records may be updated and the appropriate notification mailed to the owner. This second copy should then be submitted to the address listed below using the yellow mailing envelope supplied.

GMC Truck Division General Motors Corporation 101 Union Street Plymouth, Michigan 48170

GMC Truck Division does not consider the lessee the owner of a vehicle.

VEHICLES PERMANENTLY OUT OF OPERATION

The only vehicles we can assign to this category are those where GMC personnel have personally witnessed a vehicle "totaled" or where an insurance claim and pictures have been submitted showing a vehicle is "totaled." "Totaled" means that there is no part of the vehicle which can be reused or rebuilt. Documentation indicating that a vehicle is "totaled" must be supplied to your GMC Truck service representative before the VIN can be removed from your computer listing.

VEHICLE TRANSFER

NOTE: DO NOT REQUEST TRANSFER OF A VEHICLE ONLY BECAUSE THE ADDRESS LISTED ON YOUR COMPUTER LISTING IS NOT IN YOUR AREA!

Contact the owner listed and find out where the vehicle is actually located. Many times the vehicle is actually located in one state and registered in another. If, after checking with the owner, you find that the vehicle is located elsewhere, you may request a transfer. This can be done in one or two ways:

1. Contact your GMC Truck Division service representative.

2. On the 2nd copy of the computer listing, underline those VINS, which you have checked out and want transferred, write "PLEASE TRANSFER," sign your name and date, and submit the listing to your GMC Truck Division service representative.

By requesting that a vehicle be transferred, this does not mean it will be removed from your next computer listing. When a transfer request is received by your GMC Truck Division service representative, he/she will then send a request to the receiving region. The receiving region then has 30 days to accept or reject the transfer request.

COMPLETIONS

Campaign Completion Stickers may be ordered from your GMC Truck service representative.

Enclosed are five (5) Dealer Campaign Report Forms and one (1) mailing envelope for your use. If additional forms or envelopes are required, contact Adistra Corporation, (313) 455-9072.

NOTE: THE DEALER CAMPAIGN REPORT FORM SHOULD BE USED FOR COMPLETIONS ONLY!

DO NOT complete a card each time you complete a campaign on a vehicle. A warranty claim submitted by the dealer will remove a VIN from the outstanding campaign listing in most cases. The use of this card should be very limited. Use the card:

1. If a vehicle appears on your computer listing for two (2) consecutive listings after a campaign has been completed.

2. If an owner received the campaign part and completed the campaign. (Refer to section "OWNER COMPLETED CAMPAIGN".

This card should be completely filled out with the following information:

1. Complete Vehicle Identification Number

2. GM Campaign Number (Not Labor Operation) - Two Digit source Code followed by Campaign Number (48/13 XXCXX).

3. WRO Number (Not required if customer completed campaign, write "owner completed")

4. GM/Chevrolet Truck Dealer Code - Two Digit Source code followed by Five Digit Dealer Code (48/13 XXXXX).

5. Signature

6. Date

OWNER COMPLETED CAMPAIGN

Owners receive an owner reply card with their campaign letter. Therefore, it is recommended that involved dealers wait until they receive their second Outstanding Vehicle List, after campaign has been released, before follow-up with owners. This will allow time for owner reply cards to be received by GMC and processed, removing VINs from outstanding list.

After the dealer receives the second Outstanding Vehicle List follow-up with owner can be made by telephone. Ask the owner if he/she received and installed campaign part/label. Do not mail card/letter to owner requesting they come into the dealership for this type of campaign, unless campaign bulletin directs dealer to do so. If the owner completed campaign, the dealer can then do one of the following:

o Submit WRO on subject VIN and use .1 hour for administrative time with campaign labor operation.

or

o You may also indicate owner completed and date you talked to the owner on a copy of your outstanding vehicle listing and mail it to GMC Truck Division using the previously supplied yellow mailing envelopes.

or

o Complete small yellow Dealer Campaign Report Form. Refer to section "COMPLETIONS" above.

EXPORTED VEHICLES

Exported vehicles are those which are now located outside the United States. A complete address of where the vehicle is now located must be furnished before the VIN can be removed from your computer listing.

Notification of vehicles to be exported may be submitted the same as owner name/address changes.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
