Exhaust Manifold Replacement Left

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 312278  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the PCV tube from the air cleaner outlet duct.
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct from the throttle body.
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.

  4. Object Number: 172982  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) gauge sensor electrical connector.
  6. Remove the intermittent steering shaft.
  7. • Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Standard.
    • Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  8. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve inlet pipe from the exhaust manifold.

  9. Object Number: 341247  Size: SH
  10. Remove the radiator inlet hose support bracket and nut.
  11. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  12. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  13. Lower the vehicle to the proper height.
  14. Remove the front tire to gain access to the rear exhaust manifold bolts. Wheel Removal in Tire and Wheels.

  16. Remove the fender wheelhouse extension.
  17. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  18. Object Number: 341362  Size: SH
  19. Remove the exhaust manifold bolts and the stud.
  20. Lower the vehicle.
  21. Remove the exhaust manifold and the spark plug wire shields from the engine.
  22. Clean all gasket surfaces. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Clean and Inspect .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 341362  Size: SH
  1. Sub-assemble the spark plug wire shields, bolts, and NEW gaskets to the exhaust manifold.
  2. The stud installs in the front hole.

  3. Raise the vehicle to the proper height.
  4. Install the exhaust manifold to the engine. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Installation .
  5. Connect the spark plug wires to the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  6. Object Number: 303008  Size: SH
  7. Install the fender wheelhouse extension.
  8. Install the front tire. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tire and Wheels.
  9. Raise the vehicle.
  10. Connect the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  13. Install the radiator inlet hose support bracket and nut.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the radiator inlet hose support bracket nut to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  15. Connect the ECT gauge sensor electrical connector.
  16. Connect the EGR valve inlet pipe to the exhaust manifold.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the EGR valve inlet pipe exhaust manifold nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  18. Install the intermittent steering shaft.
  19. • Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Standard.
    • Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

  20. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  21. Install the air cleaner outlet duct to the throttle body.
  22. Connect the PCV tube to the air cleaner outlet duct.

Exhaust Manifold Replacement Right

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 188121  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  3. Lower the vehicle.
  4. Remove the bolt for the oil level indicator tube.
  5. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  6. Object Number: 188121  Size: SH
  7. Remove the exhaust manifold bolts.
  8. Remove the exhaust manifold and the spark plug wire shields from the engine.
  9. Clean all gasket surfaces. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Clean and Inspect .

Installation Procedure

  1. Sub-assemble the spark plug wire shields, bolts, and NEW gaskets to the exhaust manifold.
  2. Install the exhaust manifold to the engine. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Installation
  3. Connect the spark plug wires to the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  4. Raise the vehicle.
  5. Connect the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   8. Install the bolt for the oil level indicator tube.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the oil level indicator tube bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
