End Plate and Rotating Group Replacement CB Series

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 558350  Size: SH
  3. Use the punch in the access hole in order to remove the retaining ring (1).
  4. Push gently on the drive shaft (1) in order to remove the following internal components of the pump housing:

    • The end cover
    • The O-ring seal
    • The pressure plate spring
    • The pressure plate

  5. Remove the following components from the drive shaft subassembly:
  6. • The pump rotor (3)
    • The thrust plate (2)
    • The drive shaft (1)
    • The shaft retaining ring (4)
    • The pump ring and the vane
  7. Remove the O-ring from the pump housing.
  8. Remove the dowel pins.
  9. Remove the drive shaft seal.
  10. Remove the following components from the pressure plate:
  11. • The end cover
    • The pressure plate spring
    • The O-ring
  12. Remove the pump ring and the vanes from the drive shaft subassembly.
  13. Remove the shaft retaining ring from the drive shaft.
  14. Remove the pump rotor and the thrust plate from the drive shaft.
  15. Clean all of the parts in power steering fluid.
  16. Dry the parts.
  17. Adjust the following components:
  18. • The pressure plate
    • The pump ring
    • The rotor
    • The vanes
    • The thrust plate (2)
    • The drive shaft (1)
  19. Inspect and replace the components if the components have the following conditions:
  20. • Scoring
    • Pitting
    • Chatter marks

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 7728 Shaft Oil Seal Installer

  1. Lubricate the new drive shaft seal (1) using power steering fluid.

  2. Object Number: 558344  Size: SH
  3. Use the J 7728 in order to install the drive shaft seal (1) into the pump housing.
  4. Install the pump ring dowel pins into the pump housing.

  5. Object Number: 558356  Size: SH
  6. Install the thrust plate (2) and the pump rotor (3) to the drive shaft (1).
  7. Install the new shaft retaining ring onto the drive shaft.
  8. Install the drive shaft subassembly into the pump housing.
  9. Install the vanes into the pump rotor.

  10. Object Number: 558374  Size: SH
  11. Install the pump ring (1) into the pump housing.
  12. Ensure that the holes are positioned correctly onto the dowel pins.

  13. Lubricate the new O-ring with power steering fluid.
  14. Install the O-ring into the groove in the pump housing.
  15. Install the pressure plate.
  16. Install the pressure plate spring.
  17. Lubricate the new O-ring with power steering fluid.
  18. Install the O-ring into the end cover.
  19. Lubricate the outer edge of the end cover with power steering fluid.
  20. Press the end cover into the pump housing.

  21. Object Number: 558380  Size: SH
  22. Install the retaining ring (5) into the groove in the pump housing.
  23. Ensure that the ring opening is near the access hole in the pump housing.

  24. Install the power steering pump from the vehicle. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .

End Plate and Rotating Group Replacement P Series

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
  2. Remove the pump reservoir. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .
  3. Remove the retaining ring.
  4. Remove the end plate and the spring.
  5. Remove the pressure place by using a rubber mallet in order to tap lightly on the drive shaft.
  6. Remove the pump ring.
  7. Remove the pump vanes.
  8. Remove the shaft, rotor and thrust plate assembly.

  10. Remove the shaft retaining ring (15).
  11. Remove the pump rotor (7).
  12. Remove the thrust plate (6).
  13. Remove the drive shaft (5).
  14. Remove the dowel pins (4).
  15. Remove the O-ring seals (2,3).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 450665  Size: MH

    Important: Use new seals and a new drive shaft retaining ring when assembling pump.

  1. Lubricate the O-ring seals (2,3) using power steering fluid.
  2. Install the O-ring seals to the housing.
  3. Install the dowel pins to the housing.
  4. Install the thrust plate (6) and the pump rotor (7) to the drive shaft (5). Secure with the retaining ring (15).
  5. Install the shaft, rotor and thrust plate assembly to the housing.
  6. Install the pump vanes to the pump rotor.
  7. Install the pump ring to the housing with identification arrows on the top edge of the ring facing outward.
  8. Install the pressure plate.
  9. Install the retaining ring.
  10. Install the pump reservoir. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .
  11. Install the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
