2

  1. Depress and hold the following buttons:
  2. • MODE
    • ENGLISH/METRIC
  3. With the buttons depressed, turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  4. Observe the display segments in order to determine if the segments light for 2 seconds and then turn off for 2 seconds.

Do all of the display segments light and then turn off as described?

--

Go to Step 3

Go to Driver Information Center (DIC) Display Blank, Mode Indicator Changes with Mode Button

3

The driver information center (DIC) automatically tests the internal circuitry. Observe the display in order to determine if the display shows PS for approximately 2 seconds.

Does the display show PS for approximately 2 seconds?

--

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 4

4

Is the vehicle equipped with a sunroof?

--

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 7

5

The following error codes may occur with the DIC. Determine if any of the following codes exist:

    • E1 - Compass Circuit Frequency Failure
    • E2 - Compass Circuit Voltage Failure
    • E3 - Compass Storage Device Failure
    • E4 - Vehicle Communication Failure

Are any of the listed error codes present?

--

Go to Step 6

Go to Driver Information System Check

6

Replace the compass remote sensor. Refer to Electronic Compass Module Replacement

Does the error persist?

--

Go to Step 12

Go to Driver Information System Check

7

The following error codes may occur with the DIC. Determine if any of the following codes exist:

    • E1 - Compass Circuit Frequency Failure
    • E2 - Compass Circuit Voltage Failure
    • E3 - Compass Storage Device Failure
    • E4 - Vehicle Communication Failure

Are any of the listed error codes present?

--

Go to Step 12

Go to Driver Information System Check

8

The DIC displays the north-south compensation value for approximately 2 seconds.

Does the temperature display show N and a number within the specified range?

0-15

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 12

9

The DIC displays the east-west compensation value for approximately 2 seconds.

Does the temperature display show E and a number within the specified range?

0-15

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 12

10

The following actions occur in the DIC for approximately 2 seconds:

    • The variation number shows in the temperature display area.
    • The VAR indicator lights.

Is the variation number within the specified range?

1-15

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 12

11

    • The Self Diagnostics routine is complete. The display goes through the normal prove out routine and returns to display status.
    • The north-south and east-west compensation values should be a value within the specified range. If one of the compensation values is far out of this range, the vehicle may be highly magnetic.
    • Refer to Electronic Compass Operation in order to set the variance.

Has the self-test completed all of the circuit diagnostic tests?

0-15

Go to Driver Information System Check

12

Replace the DIC. Refer to Driver Information Center Module Replacement .

Is the repair complete?
