Ensure that the sunroof is in the flush position (closed and down) at the beginning of the test. Use a hex-head wrench at the motor in order to manually move the sunroof. This action verifies that the sunroof is in the flush position. The flush position is the point at which the LS3 contacts change state.

Diagnostic Aids

       Important: Use the appropriate probe from the J 35616 Connector Test Adapter Kit in order to probe the body bussed electrical center (BBEC) in the following table. Use of the appropriate probe prevents damage to the BBEC.

    • Visually inspect the wiring and connectors.
    • Refer to Wiring Systems for intermittents and poor connections.

Condition

Action

    • The sunroof does not respond in any direction.
    • The sunroof remains in the FLUSH position at all times.
    • The sunroof remains in the VENT or OPEN position at all times.
    • The sunroof moves from the VENT or OPEN positions with the control switch depressed but returns to the original position when the switch is released.

    • The sunroof does not rise to the VENT position.
    • The sunroof does open and close in the slide range.

    • The sunroof moves to the VENT position.
    • The sunroof slides open but does not close.

    • The sunroof does not stop at the soft-stop set point when the sunroof is rising to the VENT position. The sunroof continues to travel until the movement is stopped by the mechanical hard-stop. This is indicated by some excess noise or vibration.
    • The sunroof operates normally for all other functions.

    • The sunroof does not stop at the soft-stop set point when the sunroof is rising to the VENT position. The sunroof continues to travel until the movement is stopped by the mechanical hard-stop. This is indicated by some excess noise or vibration.
    • The sunroof does not stop at the OPEN soft-stop position when the sunroof is opening in the slide range.
    • The sunroof does not stop at the FLUSH position when the sunroof is closing in the slide range.

    • The sunroof does not stop at the soft-stop set point when the sunroof is rising to the VENT position. The sunroof continues to travel until the movement is stopped by the mechanical hard-stop. This will be indicated by some excess noise or vibration.
    • The sunroof stops at the OPEN soft-stop position when the sunroof is opening in the slide range.
    • The sunroof does not stop at the FLUSH position when the sunroof is closing in the slide range.

    • The sunroof does not lower to the FLUSH position.

    • The sunroof does not stop at the FLUSH position when the sunroof is closing from the VENT position. The sunroof continues operating and slides open.
    • The sunroof motion stops when the rearward portion of the control switch is released. The sunroof does not open in this mode.
    • The sunroof, if driven open with the control switch, does not stop at the open soft-stop set point.
    • The sunroof, when closing from the open position, does not stop at the flush position unless the switch is released.

The sunroof operates normally in the vent range but does not slide open if the control switch is continually pressed.

The sunroof makes unusual noise or vibrations during operation between the normal ends of travel.

    • The sunroof does not complete travel in the selected direction with continuous operation in the time allowed by the timer.
    • The sunroof only travels part way in the selected direction then stops before reaching the soft-stop or flush position. The travel time before stopping is approximately 8.4 seconds.
