INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) INSULATOR PANEL RATTLE

SUBJECT: INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) INSULATOR PANEL RATTLE (ROTATE PUSH/INSERT NUT 90 DEGREES)

MODELS: 1998 CHEVROLET AND GMC S/T MODELS 1998 OLDSMOBILE BRAVADA

BUILT PRIOR TO THE FOLLOWING VIN BREAKPOINTS:

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS, WITH VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO THE ABOVE VIN BREAKPOINTS, MAY COMMENT ABOUT A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE I/P DASH AREA.

CAUSE:

ON EARLY 1998 BUILT VEHICLES, THE SCREW THAT SECURES THE LEFT AND CENTER INSULATOR PANELS TOGETHER, UNDERNEATH THE I/P ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, MAY PULL THE ONE PUSH/INSERT NUT OUT OF THE CENTER INSULATOR PANEL. THIS OCCURS BECAUSE THERE IS A GAP BETWEEN THE MATING SURFACES OF THE TWO PANELS THAT HOLD THE PUSH/INSERT NUT IN PLACE.

CORRECTION:

ROTATE THE PUSH/INSERT NUTS 90 DEGREES TO A HORIZONTAL POSITION.
