Subject: | Vehicle Drive Range Decreases (Reprogram BPCM) |
Models: | 1997-1998 Chevrolet S-10 Electric Trucks |
with Panasonic (TP-6) Lead Acid Battery Packs |
A customer may notice the truck having a reduction in drive range, particularly after the vehicle has been charging for extended periods without driving.
Insufficient frequency of battery leveling and undercharging, which can cause sulfating of the batteries, may cause this condition. Battery leveling occurred every 24 charge cycles.
Reprogram the Battery Pack Control Module (BPCM) with new software. The new software, available from Techline® starting in May 2002 on TIS 2000, version 5.5 update or later, will force battery leveling to occur every 6 charge cycles. The new calibration will cause an increase of 10-15 minutes per charge cycle due to the new charging strategy.
