Subject: | Cargo Cover Will Not Open from Key Fob or from Switch in Glove Box |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
Cargo cover will not open from key Fob or from switch in glove box.
The description and operation for the cargo cover release can be found in Document ID 1339843. However it does not give the description and operation for the emergency release handle. When the handle is slightly pulled, it will provide a ground for the bed cover release relay which will cause the actuator to operate and open the cargo cover. If the handle is pulled further, it will mechanically open the cargo cover, so even if the battery is discharged or there is an electrical concern, the emergency release handle will mechanically open the cargo cover.
There are 3 conditions which may cause the cargo cover not to open when using the key Fob or switch behind the glove box door.
Remove the bed cover release relay from the UBEC and reinstall it. This should cause the cargo cover to open. If the cargo cover opens, then the most likely cause is the emergency release cable is binding or is pinched behind the left cargo cover latch assembly and the body. This cable is routed from the emergency release handle, then it goes behind the left cargo cover latch, and then down to the latch plate which is under the rear of the vehicle on the drivers side behind the rear tire. If the cargo cover does not open by removing and reinstalling the bed cover release relay, it is still possible to have a binding or pinched cable, but the relay or actuator may be damaged not allowing the cargo cover to release. The cargo cover can be opened manually by accessing the latch plate and using the tool supplied with the vehicle to open the cargo cover. The instructions to manually open the cargo cover can be found in the owners manual. If the cables are not binding or the concern cannot be duplicated, refer to document # 1335726 to verify cables are properly adjusted.
