Condition
Some customers may comment on the following conditions:
| • | The cargo cover won't open from the glove box or key fob. |
| • | The vehicle won't start and the technician may find a dead battery. |
Cause
This condition may be caused by excessive tension on the child safety release cable. This cable actuates a switch in the latch that engages the coil side of the cargo cover release relay, causing the battery to go dead and not allowing the cargo cover to open electrically.
The cable tension may be caused by one of the following conditions:
| • | The child safety release handle may be pinched behind the left cargo cover latch and the bed. |
| • | The release cable may have a bind in it. |
| • | The child safety release cable casing may not be fully seated to the latch mounting bracket. Refer to the arrow in the illustration above for proper placement. |
| • | The latch release cable may be out of adjustment. |
Correction
Remove the cargo cover release relay from the UBEC (SI Document ID #1404924) and reinstall it. This should cause the cargo cover to open. If the cargo cover opens, then the most likely cause is that the emergency release cable is binding, pinched or the cable is not seated. If the cables are not binding or the concern cannot be duplicated, refer to SI Document ID #1332756 for cable adjustment.
