03-05 Chevrolet SSR IP HVAC Vents Are Hard to Operate, Stick and/or Hang Up - kw adjust bind break clearance dash duct GMT368 hard HVAC IP IPC

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

The IP HVAC vents for the left, right and/or center vents are hard to operate, stick and/or hang up. The vents may not move without excessive force being applied which can break the vent. The HVAC vents may stick or catch on the IP, because there is not enough clearance.

Add two 1 mm thick washers between the IP vent ducts and IP trim plate at all fastener locations. This will shim the vents away from the IP to provide enough clearance. A total of 20 washers will be need to shim all the IP HVAC vents.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
