03 04 Chevrolet SSR Built Before VIN 4B106284 Top Inoperative or Does Not Complete the Open Close Cycle B3683 B3685 or No DTCs - kw roof convertible top latch panel message

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Top inoperative, top does not complete open or close cycle, roof ajar message, or roof time out message. The concern may also be accompanied by DTC B3683 or B3685.

Monitor the roof dowel pin switch input and the header over center latch switch input on the Tech 2 RDM data list. Both inputs come from the dowel pin switch located in the left header latch assembly.

The roof dowel pin switch input should change from engaged to disengaged after the dowel pin no longer contacts the dowel pin switch.

The roof dowel pin switch input should change from engaged to disengaged after the dowel pin no longer contacts the dowel pin switch.

The roof dowel pin switch input should change from disengaged to engaged when the top panel dowel pin contacts the dowel pin switch.

The header over center latch switch input should be active when the top is closed completely. This input should stay active until the front roof panel starts to move away from the header. If this input changes when the vehicle is driven over bumps or on a rough road the roof ajar message will be displayed on the DIC.

If either of the inputs are not changing properly, replace the left header latch. The left header latch has been updated. Vehicles built after VIN 4B106284 will have the updated left header latch. All old stock has been purged. If a left header latch is ordered the dealer will receive the updated part. This part is listed as (LATCH,RF RETRACTABLE PNL (16.585) - LH) in the parts catalog.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
