Go to Diagnostic Starting Point - Locking/Limited Slip Rear Axle

Measure the rotational force of the axle using the following procedure:

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the rear tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
3. Using the J 28733-B Front/Rear Spindle Remover or equivalent, measure the rotational force of the axle.
4. Repeat the procedure for the other axle shaft.

Does the rotational force measure below the specified value?

22-271 N·m

(30-200 lb ft)

Go to Step 3

System OK

Remove the differential cover and inspect the condition of the fluid. If the fluid is burnt, has a metallic color and/or contains particles, replace the differential assembly. Refer to Differential Replacement .
