Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Following the deployment of a side impact air bag, inspect the following parts for damage. Replace these parts if necessary:

       • The seat cushion frame
       • The seat recliner, if equipped
       • The seat adjuster
       • The seat back frame
    Failure to do so may cause future personal injury.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the seat assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement in Seats.
  3. Remove the seat back cover and pad to expose the inflator module mounting bolts and the wiring harness. Refer to Front Seat Back Cushion Cover and Cushion Pad Replacement in Seats.
  4. Remove the front seat back panel. Refer to Driver Seat and Passenger Seat Back Cushion Finish Panel Replacement in Seats.
  5. Remove the 2 screws that secure the inflatable side impact module to the seat back frame.
  6. Remove the SIR wiring harness from the seat.
  7. Remove the side impact module.
  8. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the SIR wiring harness to the seat.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the inflatable side impact module to the seat back frame with the 2 screws.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the inflatable side impact module screws to 6 N·m (55 lb in).

  5. Install the front seat back panel. Refer to Driver Seat and Passenger Seat Back Cushion Finish Panel Replacement in Seats.
  6. Install the seat back cover and pad. Refer to Front Seat Back Cushion Cover and Cushion Pad Replacement in Seats.
  7. Install the seat assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement in Seats.
  8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling .
