Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch OFF.
  2. Turn ON the ignition.

Are the windshield wipers always on?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Disconnect the steering column harness connector.
  2. Remove the connector terminal row E from the steering column connector half.
  3. Connect the steering column harness connector.
  4. Turn ON the ignition.

Are the windshield wipers always on?

Go to Step 4

Test the windshield wiper switch high signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Test the windshield wiper switch signal 1 circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Testing for a Short to Voltage and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the windshield wiper switch high signal circuit in the steering column harness for a short to ground. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the windshield wiper switch signal 1 circuit in the steering column harness for a short to voltage. Refer to Testing for a Short to Voltage and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

Replace the windshield wiper motor cover. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
