Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.
Caution: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint front end sensor. Before applying
power to the front end sensor make sure that it is securely fastened. Failure to
observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal
injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
- Open the hood and support with prop rod.
- Remove the engine splash shield. Refer to
Engine Splash Shield Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Remove the radiator support and air cleaner assembly. Refer to the following
procedures:
- Carefully push the air conditioner condenser and radiator rearward and
insert a wedge.
- Remove the tow integral fasteners retaining
the front discriminating sensors.
- Remove the front sensor from the vehicle.
- Disconnect the electrical connection position
assurance (1).
- Disconnect the electrical connection from the front sensor.
Installation Procedure
- Remove any dirt, grease, or other impurities from the mounting surface.
- Connect the electrical connection to the front sensor.
- Connect the electrical connection position
assurance (1).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the 2 bolts (1) retaining the front sensor.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 8.0 N·m (71 lb in).
- Carefully remove the wedge that was holding the air conditioning condenser
and the radiator.
- Install the radiator support and air cleaner assembly. Refer to the following
procedures:
- Install the engine splash shield. Refer to
Engine Splash Shield Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Close the hood.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
