Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transmission oil level indicator.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Support the transmission using a suitable jack.
  4. Remove the transmission mount nut.
  5. Remove the transmission crossmember. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement in Frame and Underbody.

  7. Loosen the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement In Engine Exhaust.

  8. Object Number: 858553  Size: SH
  9. Lower the transmission slightly.

  10. Object Number: 396797  Size: SH
  11. Remove the indicator tube nut.

  12. Object Number: 396798  Size: SH
  13. Remove the oil level indicator tube.
  14. Remove the seal from the transmission, if necessary.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 396798  Size: SH
  1. Install a NEW seal to the indicator tube.
  2. Install the oil level indicator tube.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 396797  Size: SH
  4. Install the indicator tube nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  6. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  7. Install the transmission crossmember. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  8. Remove the support from the transmission.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Install the transmission oil level indicator.
  11. Fill the transmission to the proper level with DEXRON® III transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
