Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1504342  Size: MH
  1. Remove the transmission.
  2. • For the 4L60-E/4L65-E automatic, refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L60-E/4L65-E.
    • For the Tremec 6-Speed manual, refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - Tremec 6-Speed.
  3. Remove the clutch assembly, if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.
  4. Remove the flywheel bolts.
  5. Remove the flywheel.
  6. Inspect the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1504342  Size: MH

    Important: The flywheel does not use a locating pin for alignment and will not initially seat against the crankshaft flange, but will be pulled onto the crankshaft by the engine flywheel bolts. This procedure requires a 3-stage tightening process.

  1. Install the flywheel.
  2. Install the flywheel bolts.
  3. Apply threadlock to the threads of the flywheel bolts. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the engine flywheel bolts.
  6. Tighten

    1. Tighten the engine flywheel bolts a first pass in sequence to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the engine flywheel bolts a second pass in sequence to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
    3. Tighten the engine flywheel bolts a final pass in sequence to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).
  7. Install the clutch assembly, if removed. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.
  8. Install the transmission.
  9. • For the 4L60-E/4L65-E automatic, refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L60-E/4L65-E.
