Circuit Description

The roof door module (RDM) monitors the folding top outer latch striker position switch at least once every 200 milliseconds. The folding top outer latch striker position switch is a three position switch that the RDM uses to determine roof position in relation to the header. The switch is tripped by the dowel pin on the folding top front panel as the top approaches the header. The switch tells the RDM that the roof is aligned and the latching process can begin.

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B3685 Convertible Top/Moveable Roof Header Latched Left Sensor Circuit

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The battery voltage is between 9-16 volts.
    • Ignition is in the Accessory or Run position or retained accessory power (RAP) is active.
    • A request for folding top operation has been received by the RDM, and the RDM attempts to operate the folding top.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • If the RDM detects an open or short to voltage in the folding top outer latch striker disengaged signal circuit , the DTC will set.
    • If the RDM detects an open in the ground circuit of the folding top outer latch striker position switch, the DTC will set.
    • If the RDM detects that the dowel pin is engaged and the RDM commands the roof up for approximately 30 seconds and the folding top cylinder position sensor is active, the DTC will set.
    • If the RDM commands the roof up for approximately 30 seconds and the dowel pin is not engaged and the folding top cylinder position sensor is active, the DTC will set.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • Stores a current DTC B3685 in the RDM.
    • Folding top operation is suspended.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • This DTC will clear on the current status after the condition for setting the fault is corrected.
    • A history DTC will clear after 50 consecutive ignition cycles without a fault present.
    • History and current DTC can be cleared using the scan tool.

Diagnostic Aids

If the DTC does not reset after the code is cleared, then the switch may be the source of an intermittent fault. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.

2

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Header Over Center Latch Switch parameter in the data list for the roof door module (RDM).

With the roof stowed, the Header Over Center Latch Switch should display Inactive.

With the roof closed, the Header Over Center Latch Switch should display Active.

Does the scan tool display the appropriate state?

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

3

  1. Activate the folding top.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Header Over Center Latch Switch data parameter.

Does the Header Over Center Latch Switch parameter change state?

  1. Connect a test lamp to battery positive voltage.
  2. Probe the folding top outer latch striker position switch ground circuit.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 10

6

  1. Probe the folding top outer latch striker position switch disengaged signal circuit with a 3-amp fused jumper connected to the folding top outer latch striker position switch ground circuit.
  2. Observe the Header Over Center Latch Switch parameter in the scan tool.

Does the scan tool display Inactive or does the jumper fuse open?
