J 37043 Park Brake Cable Release Tool

Notice: Handling the parking brake cables during service requires extra care. Damage to the nylon coating reduces the corrosion protection. If the damage area passes through the nylon coating, increased parking brake effort could result. Avoid contacting the protective coating with sharp-edge tools or the sharp surfaces of the vehicle underbody.

1. Release the park brake.
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
3. Remove the rear tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
4. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
5. Install the J 37043  (1) on the park brake cable.
6. Using the J 37043 , remove the park brake cable from the retaining bracket.



7. Remove the park brake cable from the actuator.



8. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, remove the left rear park brake cable from the retaining clips.



9. Remove the retaining bolt for the left rear park brake cable.



10. Using the J 37043  (1) , remove the left rear park brake cable from the retaining bracket.



11. Remove the left rear park brake cable.

1. Install the left rear park brake cable in the retaining bracket.
2. Install the left rear park brake cable to the equalizer.



3. Install the left rear park brake cable to the park brake actuator.



4. Using a pair of needle-nose pliers or equivalent, compress the return spring.



5. Install the left rear park brake cable in the retaining bracket.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

6. Install the park brake cable retaining bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the retaining bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).




7. Install the left rear park brake cable in the retaining clips.
8. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.



9. Adjust the left rear park brake, if necessary. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
10. Install the rear tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
11. Lower the vehicle.
