Subject: | 05 Chevrolet SSR the Ambient Temperature Is Inaccurate or the DIC Displays
ICE |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom
described in the PI.
Condition/Concern:
The ambient temperature is inaccurate on the auxiliary gage package or the DIC
displays "ICE". The wiring diagrams in SI do not show the ambient temperature sensor,
and the master component locator does not show the location of the ambient temperature
sensor.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Below is some of the circuit information for the Ambient Air Temperature sensor
circuit and the component location.
• | The ambient temperature sensor is located in front of the radiator on
the left side. |
• | The ambient temperature sensor is an input to the RDM (Roof Door Module). |
• | The ambient air temperature sensor signal wire goes to connector C1 pin
7 of the RDM. This should be a Green/Gray wire at the RDM. The connector end view
for the RDM will show this as the NTC Thermistor Signal, this is incorrect for the
2005 model year. |
• | The ambient air temperature sensor signal wire will change color at the
C309 connector to a Lt Green/Black. |
• | The ambient air temperature sensor low reference wire goes to connector
C2 pin 11 at the RDM. The ambient air temperature sensor low reference wire should
be a brown wire. |
• | The Tech 2 can be used to read the ambient air temperature sensor in the
RDM. If the ambient air temperature on the Tech 2 is different than what is displayed
on the gauge, this may be normal due to the update rate of the gauge. |

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the
condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps
do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact
GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
