The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

The fasteners for the side saddle storage compartments or the cross bar do not fit into the side rails. The fasteners are 1 inch by 1 inch and have a threaded hole in the center for the retaining bolt that secures the storage compartment or cross bar. The fasteners are best described as square nuts. The rails are undersized and do not allow the square nuts to slide into the side rails.

The service fix is to file or grind approximately 1/16 inch off the square nut, so the square nut will be 15/16 inch by 1 inch. This will allow the square nut to fit into the side rail.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
