Diagnostic Instructions
Circuit/System Description
The power sliding rear window motor is controlled from the rear window open/close switch through open and close relays. The open/close switch is supplied voltage from the body control module (BCM) accessory voltage output circuit. When the switch is pressed
in the open or closed position the open or closed relay coil will be supplied accessory voltage and energized through the appropriate relay control circuit. While the open and close relays are in a de-energized state both motor control circuits will be closed
to ground. When one of the relays is energized its motor control circuit will be closed to the battery voltage supply circuit and the other motor control circuit will remain grounded through the de-energized relay.

Circuit/System Verification
Verify that the Retained Accessory Power (RAP) circuit is functioning normally.
Circuit/System Testing
Power Rear Sliding Window Circuit Test
- Disconnect the rear sliding window switch and connect a test lamp from the accessory voltage supply circuit terminal A to ground.
- Ignition ON, verify the test lamp illuminates.
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate test the accessory voltage supply circuit for an open/high resistance or short to ground. If the circuit tests normal replace the BCM. |
- Disconnect the open and close relays.
- Verify that a test lamp connected to battery voltage illuminates when connected to each of the relay ground circuit terminals A1 and B2.
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate repair the affected ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
- Verify that a test lamp connected to ground illuminates when connected to each of the relay battery voltage supply circuit terminals A2.
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate repair the affected battery voltage supply circuit for an open/high resistance or short to ground. |
- Connect the rear sliding window switch and connect a test lamp from the open relay control circuit terminal C2 in the open relay connector to ground.
- Ignition ON, verify that the test lamp illuminates when the rear sliding window switch is pressed in the open position.
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate test the open relay control circuit for an open/high resistance or short to ground. If the circuit tests normal replace the rear sliding window switch. |
- Connect a test lamp from the close relay control circuit terminal C2 in the close relay connector to ground.
- Ignition ON, verify that the test lamp illuminates when the rear sliding window switch is pressed in the closed position.
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate test the close relay control circuit for an open/high resistance or short to ground. If the circuit tests normal replace the rear sliding window switch. |
- Connect the open and close relays, disconnect the window motor connector, and connect a test lamp from the motor open control circuit terminal to ground.
- Ignition ON, verify that the test lamp illuminates when the rear sliding window switch is pressed in the open position.
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate test the motor open control circuit for an open/high resistance or short to ground. If the circuit tests normal replace the open relay. |
- Connect a test lamp from the motor close control circuit terminal to ground and verify that the test lamp illuminates when the rear sliding window switch is pressed in the closed position.
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate test the motor close control circuit for an open/high resistance or short to ground. If the circuit tests normal replace the close relay. |
- If the circuits test normal replace the window motor.
