Parking Brake Shoe Replacement JD9

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement.
  3. Disconnect the park brake cable from the actuator.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
15 N·m (11 lb ft)

Park Brake Shoe and Lining

Procedure

  1. To remove and install the park brake shoe, place the open end of the park brake shoe over the axle flange and rotate it until the shoe has cleared the flange.
  2. Apply a thin coat of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the contact areas of the brake shoe and the backing plate.
  3. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment.

  3. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement.

Procedure

Clean the threads and apply high temperature grease to the adjuster screw.

Park Brake Shoe Hold Down Spring (Qty: 2)

Procedure

Compress the spring and rotate ¼ turn to release.

Procedure

  1. Use denatured alcohol to clean brake dust or grease from the park brake shoes and hardware.
  2. If reinstalling the park brake shoes, note the location of the park brake shoes for installation.
  3. Apply a small amount of high temperature silicone grease to the brake shoe and backing plate contact points.
  4. After the installation is complete, adjust the park brake. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment.
