Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1220681 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the rear cargo area trim panel. Refer to Cargo Area Rear Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  3. Disconnect the tailgate electrical connector (1).

  4. Remove the tailgate strut. Refer to Liftgate Window Strut Replacement .
  5. Remove the hinge bolts.
  6. Disconnect the body-to-tailgate rubber grommet.
  7. Remove the tailgate.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1220686 Size: SH
  1. Connect the body-to-tailgate rubber grommet.
  2. With the aid of another technician, lightly secure the tailgate with the bolts.
  3. Adjust the tailgate for proper fit.
  4. Install the tailgate strut. Refer to Liftgate Window Strut Replacement .
  5. Connect the tailgate electrical connector.
  6. Install the rear cargo area trim panel. Refer to Cargo Area Rear Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
