Transmitter Programming Scan 100

The remote keyless entry system allows for the use of as many as five transmitters for each vehicle. Replacement remote keyless entry system transmitters must be first programmed to the specific vehicle using the scan tool.

This process is completed using serial data communications between the scan tool and the remote keyless entry control unit and is the only method available for programming transmitters.

Important: All transmitters that are to be recognized by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to five transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

Important: Make sure that the doors and trunk/rear hatch are closed before beginning the programming procedure.

Notice: Do not use a scan tool that displays faulty data. Report the scan tool problem to the manufacturer. Use of a faulty scan tool can result in misdiagnosis and unnecessary parts replacement.

  1. Connect the scan tool to the data link connector.
  2. Send the programming mode message to the remote control door lock receiver.
  3. Press any button of the transmitter to generate a data code including a password which will be recorded by the remote control door lock receiver. The remote control door lock receiver sends a response message to the scan tool to indicate that the first password has been recorded.
  4. Press any button of the transmitter three more times until the remote control door lock receiver has responded that the third, fourth, and fifth password have been recorded.
  5. Disconnect the scan tool.

The remote control door lock receiver leaves the programming mode automatically and switches to the normal operating mode when either of the following conditions occur:

    • The scan tool is disconnected from the DLC.
    • Five passwords are recorded in the remote control door lock receiver.

Transmitter Programming Tech 2

Important: All transmitters that are to be recognized by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to five transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

Transmitter Programming Procedure

Important: Turn the ignition to ON before installing in the scan tool. Failure to connect in this procedure may cause communication errors and the programming procedure will not complete. Any keys that are not programmed at this time will no longer function.

  1. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  2. Install the scan tool.
  3. Select PROGRAMMING KEY FOBS from the BODY menu.
  4. Follow the scan tool instructions with each key until all keys are programmed.
  5. Turn the ignition to the LOCK position, disconnect the TECH 2 and test all the keys.
  6. If any key does not function, refer to Keyless Entry Does Not Program .

Refer to Programming Additional Keys in Theft Deterrent System for immobilizer programming.
