Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: The sensing and the diagnosis module (SDM) can maintain sufficient voltage to deploy the airbags and pretensioners for up to 1 minute after the ignition has been turned OFF and the fuse has been removed. If the airbags and pretensioners are not disconnected, do not begin service until one minute has been passed after disconnecting power to the SDM. Failure to do so may cause personal injury.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  3. Remove the steering column covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the horn connector (1).
  5. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector (2).

  7. Remove the 4 steering wheel module coil screws (2).
  8. Remove the steering wheel module coil (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1618036  Size: SH
  1. Ensure the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
  2. Center the steering wheel module coil (1), if necessary. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering .
  3. Install the steering wheel module coil (1). Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering .
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the steering wheel module coil fasteners (2).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 1 N·m (11 lb in).

  7. Connect the horn connector (1).
  8. Connect the steering wheel module coil connector (2).
  9. Install the steering column covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement
  10. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  11. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
