Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1618045  Size: SH

    Caution: The sensing and the diagnosis module (SDM) can maintain sufficient voltage to deploy the airbags and pretensioners for up to 1 minute after the ignition has been turned OFF and the fuse has been removed. If the airbags and pretensioners are not disconnected, do not begin service until one minute has been passed after disconnecting power to the SDM. Failure to do so may cause personal injury.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the glove box. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .
  3. Remove the center instrument panel bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the I/P module connector (1).

  6. Remove the 2 I/P module fasteners (1).

  7. Object Number: 1618050  Size: SH
  8. Remove the 4 I/P module fasteners (1).
  9. Remove the 2 I/P module fasteners (2).
  10. Remove the I/P module.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1618050  Size: SH
  1. Install the I/P module.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the 2 I/P module fasteners (2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the 2 I/P module fasteners (2) to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  5. Install the 4 I/P module fasteners (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the 4 I/P module fasteners (1) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Install the 2 I/P module fasteners (1).

  8. Object Number: 1618045  Size: SH
  9. Connect the I/P module connector (1).
  10. Install the center instrument panel bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  11. Install the glove box. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
