Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Caution: The sensing and the diagnosis module (SDM) can maintain sufficient voltage to deploy the airbags and pretensioners for up to 1 minute after the ignition has been turned OFF and the fuse has been removed. If the airbags and pretensioners are not disconnected, do not begin service until one minute has been passed after disconnecting power to the SDM. Failure to do so may cause personal injury.

  3. Remove 3 inflatable restraint steering wheel module bolts (1).

  4. Object Number: 1618031  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the horn connector (2).
  6. Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module connector (3).
  7. Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:

       • Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on the inflator module
       • Make sure the bag opening points away from you
    When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests. When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result.

  8. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module connector (3).
  2. Connector the horn connector (2).
  3. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module (1).
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module fasteners (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the inflatable restraint steering wheel module fasteners to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
