Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1618030  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  2. Warning: Refer to Sensing and Diagnostic Module Voltage after Ignition is Turned Off Warning in the Preface section.

  3. Remove 3 inflatable restraint steering wheel module bolts (1).

  4. Object Number: 1618031  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the horn connector (2).
  6. Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module connector (3).
  7. Warning: When carrying an undeployed inflator module:

       • Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector.
       • Make sure the air bag opening points away from you.
            When storing an undeployed inflator module:
       • Make sure the air bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests.
       • Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment.
       • When storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the air bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Lay the column on its side.
    Failure to observe these guidelines may result in personal injury.

  8. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1618031  Size: SH
  1. Connect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module connector (3).
  2. Connector the horn connector (2).
  3. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module (1).
  4. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1618030  Size: SH
  5. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module fasteners (1) and tighten to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
  6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
