Rear Seat Belt Replacement and Buckle Replacement 2 Door

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 186868  Size: SH

    Notice: To prevent possible seat belt damage, refer to the following items before servicing or replacing lap and shoulder belts, including single loop belt systems:

       • Lap and shoulder belts will be serviced as follows:
          - Replace only the part in question.
          - Do not intermix standard and deluxe belts on front or rear seats.
          - All attachment hardware must be replaced, not reused.
       • Keep sharp edges and damaging objects away from belts.
       • Avoid bending or damaging any portion of the belt buckle or latch plate.
       • Do not bleach or dye belt or strap webbing. Clean with a mild soap solution and water.
       • When installing lap or shoulder belt anchor bolts, start the bolts by hand to ensure that the bolts are threaded straight.
       • Do not attempt repairs on lap or shoulder belt retractor mechanisms to lap belt retractor covers. Replace defective assemblies with new service replacement parts.
       • Do not attempt to remove the seat belt retractor cover. The cover and the long rivet securing the cover to the retractor are not available as service replacement parts.

  1. Remove the rear seat. Refer to Rear Seat Replacement in Seats, 1999 C/K Service Manual.
  2. Remove the buckle from the rear seat support assembly.
  3. Remove the bolt and the upper anchor plate.
  4. Remove the quarter trim panel. Refer to Quarter Panel Trim Replacement in Interior Trim, 1999 C/K Service Manual.

  6. Remove the bolt holding the retractor to the body.
  7. Remove the seat belt and retractor.

  8. Object Number: 156645  Size: SH
  9. Remove the bolts holding the buckle assembly to the floor panel.
  10. Remove the buckle assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 156645  Size: SH
  1. Install the buckle assembly to the floor panel.
  2. Install the bolts to the buckle assembly.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the rear seat buckle assembly bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  4. Install the bolt through the seat belt retractor to the weld nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the rear seat retractor bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Install the quarter trim panel. Refer to Quarter Panel Trim Replacement in Interior Trim, 1999 C/K Service Manual.
  7. Install the bolt to the upper anchor plate.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  9. Install the buckle to the rear seat assembly.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the buckle-to-rear seat assembly bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  11. Install the rear seat. Refer to Rear Seat Replacement in Seats, 1999 C/K Service Manual .

Rear Seat Belt Replacement and Buckle Replacement 4 Door

Removal Procedure

    Notice: To prevent possible seat belt damage, refer to the following items before servicing or replacing lap and shoulder belts, including single loop belt systems:

       • Lap and shoulder belts will be serviced as follows:
          - Replace only the part in question.
          - Do not intermix standard and deluxe belts on front or rear seats.
          - All attachment hardware must be replaced, not reused.
       • Keep sharp edges and damaging objects away from belts.
       • Avoid bending or damaging any portion of the belt buckle or latch plate.
       • Do not bleach or dye belt or strap webbing. Clean with a mild soap solution and water.
       • When installing lap or shoulder belt anchor bolts, start the bolts by hand to ensure that the bolts are threaded straight.
       • Do not attempt repairs on lap or shoulder belt retractor mechanisms to lap belt retractor covers. Replace defective assemblies with new service replacement parts.
       • Do not attempt to remove the seat belt retractor cover. The cover and the long rivet securing the cover to the retractor are not available as service replacement parts.

  1. Remove the rear seat. Refer to Rear Seat Replacement in Seats, 1999 C/K Service Manual.
  2. Remove the buckle from the rear seat support assembly.
  3. Remove the quarter trim panel. Refer to Quarter Panel Trim Replacement in Interior Trim, 1999 C/K Service Manual.
  4. Remove the bolt holding the retractor to the body.
  5. Remove the seat belt and retractor.
  6. Remove the nuts holding the buckle assembly to the studs.
  7. Remove the buckle assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 156640  Size: SH
  1. Install the buckle assembly to the floor panel stud.
  2. Install the nuts to the buckle assembly.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the rear seat buckle assembly nuts to 42 N·m (31 lb ft).

  4. Install the bolts through the seat belt retractor to the weld nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the rear seat belt retractor bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Install the quarter trim panel. Refer to Quarter Panel Trim Replacement in Interior Trim, 1999 C/K Service Manual.
  7. Install the buckle to the rear seat support assembly.
  8. Install the rear seat. Refer to Rear Seat Replacement in Seats, 1999 C/K Service Manual.
