Connect one red lead of the J 33431-C to instrument cluster pin 29.

Set the resistance dial to 0 ohms.
Set the resistance dial to 90 ohms.

Does the fuel gauge indicate empty when the resistance is set to 0 ohms and full when the resistance is set to 90 ohms?

Replace the instrument cluster.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Remove the fused jumper wire between B+ and the instrument cluster.
Install a fused jumper wire between the instrument cluster and ground.
Connect a connector at the instrument cluster.
Disconnect the fuel pump and sender.
Connect one red test lead of the J 33431-C to the fuel pump and sender cavity A.

Connect the other lead to ground.

Set the resistance dial to 0 ohms.
Set the resistance dial to 90 ohms.

Does the fuel gauge indicate empty when the resistance is set to 0 ohms and full when the resistance is set to 90 ohms?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

Locate and repair the high resistance in the following locations:

•	The CKT 30 (PPL) wire between the instrument cluster and connector C1 cavity 9 of the vehicle control module (VCM)

•	The CKT 1589 (PPL/WHT) wire between connector C3 cavity of the VCM and the fuel pump and sender.

Are the repairs complete?

System OK

Connect the J 33431-C to the fuel pump and sender cavity A and cavity D.
Set the resistance dial to 0 ohms.
Set the resistance dial to 90 ohms.

Does the fuel gauge indicate empty when the resistance is set to 0 ohms and full when the resistance is set to 90 ohms?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

Replace the fuel pump and sender.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Locate and repair the high resistance in the CKT 470 (BLK) wire between the fuel pump and sender and ground.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

5	Connect the J 33431-C between the fuel gauge sender cavity B and cavity A. Set the resistance dial to 0 ohms. Set the resistance dial to 90 ohms. Does the fuel gauge indicate empty when the resistance is set to 0 ohms and full when the resistance is set to 90 ohms?	--	Go to Step 6	Go to Step 7
