Cruise Control Inoperative Gasoline

  1. Verify that no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are set that may affect cruise control operations.
  2. Disconnect the connector at the cruise control module.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  4. Connect a test lamp between cruise control module connector cavity F, CKT 41(BRN) and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Locate and repair the open in CKT 41(BRN) between the IP fuse block and the cruise control module.

Is the repair complete?

Connect a self-powered test lamp between the cruise control module connector cavity E, CKT 451 (BLK/WHT) and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Go to Step 5

Locate and repair the open in CKT 451 (BLK/WHT) between the cruise control module and G103 or G104.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

  1. Turn the cruise control switch to the ON position.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the cruise control module connector cavity A, CKT 397 (GRY) and C266.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Disconnect the connector at the steering column.
  2. Connect a test lamp between C266 pin A13, CKT 41(BRN) and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Locate and repair the open in CKT 41(BRN) between the IP fuse block and C266.

Is the repair complete?

Connect a self-powered test lamp between C266 cavity A13, CKT 41(BRN) and cavity A12, CKT 397 (GRY) at the cruise control switch.

Does the test lamp light?

Locate and repair the open in CKT 397 (GRY) between C266 and the cruise control module.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Locate and repair an open in one of teh following circuits in the steering column:
  2. • CKT 41 (BRN)
    • CKT 397 (GRY)
  3. If the wires are good, replace the cruise control switch.

Are the repairs complete?

System OK

  1. Turn the cruise control switch to the OFF position.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the cruise control module connector cavity B, CKT 84 (DK BLU) and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Locate and repair the short to voltage in CKT 84 (DK BLU) between the cruise control switch and the cruise control module.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Turn the cruise control switch to the ON position.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the cruise control module connector cavity B, CKT 84 (DK BLU) and ground.
  3. Press the SET/COAST push button.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Disconnect C266 at the steering column.
  2. Connect a self-powered test lamp between cruise control module connector cavity B and C266 pin A14, CKT 84 (DK BLU).

  2. If the wire is good, replace the cruise control switch.

Connect a J 39200 Digital Multimeter (DMM) between cruise control module connector cavity K, CKT 817 (DK GRN/WHT) and ground.

Is any voltage present?

  1. Disconnect connector C4 at the Vehicle Control Module (VCM).
  2. Connect a self-powered test lamp between VCM connector C4 cavity 3 and cruise control module connector cavity K, CKT 817 (DK GRN/WHT).

Is the voltage within the specified range?

11-14 V

Locate and repair the short to voltage in CKT 817 (DK GRN/WHT) between the cruise control module and the VCM.

  2. Connect a self-powered test lamp between VCM connector C4 cavity 3 and cruise control module connector cavity K, CKT 817 (DK GRN/WHT).

Locate and repair the short to ground in CKT 817 (DK GRN/WHT) between the VCM and the cruise control module.

  1. Connect connector C4 at the VCM.
  2. Prepare to operate the vehicle.
  3. Ensure that the cruise control module connector is disconnected.
  4. Turn the radio OFF.
  5. Connect a J 39200 DMM between cruise control module connector cavity K, CKT 817 (DK GRN/WHT) and ground.
  6. Operate the vehicle. Observe the voltage.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

0-5 V

  1. Continue to operate the vehicle.
  2. Turn the radio ON.

Does the voltage equal the specified value?

Locate and repair the short to ground in CKT 396 (LT BLU/BLK ) between the cruise control module and the VCM.

  3. Connect a J 39200 DMM between CKT 817 (DK GRN/WHT) at the VCM connector C4 and ground.

Is the voltage less than the specified value?

  2. If the connections are OK, replace the VCM.
