Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - Allison or Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - ZF S6-650.
  2. Remove the flywheel assembly. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement - Automatic Transmission or Engine Flywheel Replacement - Manual Transmission.
  3. Clean the area around the crankshaft rear oil seal.

  4. Object Number: 660312  Size: SH
  5. Install the button of J 44641 into the crankshaft.
  6. Press the jaws of J 44641 into the felt portion of the seal far enough to engage the inner lip of the seal.
  7. While holding the jaws of J 44641 tightly to the seals inner sleeve, tighten the jaw bolts.
  8. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal using the J 44641 .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 663925  Size: SH
  1. Clean the crankshaft of oil and dirt.
  2. Clean the seal bore in the flywheel housing.
  3. Place the crankshaft rear oil seal onto the crankshaft.
  4. Important: The J 44642 must be fully secured to the crankshaft to ensure proper seal depth.

  5. Install the J 44642 to the crankshaft.
  6. Press the crankshaft rear oil seal into position using the J 44642 . The J 44642 will bottom out when the seal reaches the proper depth.
  7. Remove the J 44642 .
  8. Install the flywheel assembly. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement - Automatic Transmission or Engine Flywheel Replacement - Manual Transmission.
  9. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - Allison or Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - ZF S6-650.
