Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 665386  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect both battery negative battery cables. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.6L.
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  4. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  5. Remove the bolt (2) for the outlet heater hose bracket.

  7. Remove the generator bolts and reposition the generator aside. The electrical connections can remain attached to the generator.

  9. Remove the right idler pulley bolt and pulley.
  10. Remove the left idler pulley bolt and pulley.
  11. Remove the drive belt tensioner bolt and tensioner.

  12. Object Number: 698198  Size: SH
  13. Remove the fuel bleed valve nuts and valve.
  14. Reposition the oil separator hose clamp at the side of the generator bracket.
  15. Remove the oil separator hose from the pipe.

  17. If equipped, remove the vacuum line from the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve vacuum pump.

  18. Object Number: 788903  Size: SH
  19. If equipped, remove the EGR vacuum pump bolts. Reposition the vacuum pump.
  20. Reposition the oil separator hose clamp at the bottom of the generator bracket.
  21. Remove the oil separator hose from the bracket.

  23. Remove the drive belt tensioner and generator mounting bracket bolts.
  24. Remove the drive belt tensioner and generator mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 798876  Size: SH
  1. Install the drive belt tensioner and generator mounting bracket.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the drive belt tensioner and generator mounting bracket bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the drive belt tensioner and generator mounting bracket bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the oil separator hose to the bracket.
  6. Position the oil separator hose clamp at the bottom of the generator bracket.
  7. If equipped, position the vacuum pump. Install the EGR vacuum pump bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the EGR vacuum pump bolts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  9. If equipped, install the vacuum line to the EGR valve vacuum pump.

  10. Object Number: 698198  Size: SH
  11. Install the oil separator hose to the pipe.
  12. Position the oil separator hose clamp at the side of the generator bracket.
  13. Install the fuel bleed valve and nuts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel bleed valve nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  15. Install the drive belt tensioner and bolt. Align the pin on the tensioner with the hole in the bracket.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the drive belt tensioner bolt to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  17. Install the left idler pulley and bolt.
  18. Install the right idler pulley and bolt.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the idler pulley bolts to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).

  20. Position the generator and install the bolts.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the generator bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  22. Install the bolt (2) for the outlet heater hose bracket.
  23. Tighten
    Tighten the heater hose bracket bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  24. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  25. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  26. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.6L.
  27. Connect both battery negative battery cables. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
