Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 711679 Size: SH

    Important:

       • In order to prevent internal TCM damage, the ignition must be OFF when disconnecting or reconnecting power to the TCM -- for example, when working with a battery cable, TCM pigtail, TCM fuse, or jumper cables.
       • Remove any debris from the TCM connector surfaces before servicing the TCM. Inspect the TCM module connector gaskets when diagnosing or replacing the TCM. Ensure that the gaskets are installed correctly. The gaskets prevent contaminant intrusion into the TCM.

  1. Disconnect the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the bolts (1) from the transmission control module cover located on the left side of the radiator shroud.
  3. Pull the cover and module assembly up and away from the radiator shroud.

  4. Object Number: 711689 Size: SH
  5. Push up on the retainers (1) to remove the control module from the cover.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connectors (2) and remove the transmission control module from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 711689 Size: SH
  1. Connect the electrical connectors (2) to the transmission control module.
  2. Install the transmission control module to the cover.

  3. Object Number: 711690 Size: SH
  4. Using the alignment tabs (1) place the cover and module assembly to the radiator shroud.
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Object Number: 711679 Size: SH
  6. Install the bolts (1) that secure the transmission module and cover assembly to the radiator shroud.
  7. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  8. Connect the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  9. Important: It is recommended that the transmission adaptive pressure (TAP) information be reset.

Resetting the TAP values using a scan tool will erase all learned values in all cells. As a result, the ECM, PCM or TCM will need to relearn the TAP values. Transmission performance may be affected as new TAP values are learned.

  10. Reset the TAP values. Refer to Adapt Function .
  11. Reprogram the transmission control module. Refer to Transmission Control Module Reprogramming .
