Service VME - Reduced Brake Power Message on Vehicles with Vacuum Brake System

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

SERVICE VME

Reduced Brake Power message displayed on the DIC. This concern normally occurs at higher elevation with a cold engine.

First verify proper source vacuum at the SBA from the engine (for 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0L engines check vacuum port for flashing).

If vacuum source is ok, reprogram the IPC to turn the message off. Programming will be available at the next TIS update on 8/25/02.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
