Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 23523-F Crankshaft Balancer Puller and Installer

  1. Remove the engine cooling fan. Refer to Fan Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  2. Remove the accessory drive pulley.
  3. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.

  4. Object Number: 66878  Size: SH
  5. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Use the J 23523-F .

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 35468 Oil Seal Installer
    • J 23523-F Crankshaft Balance Puller and Installer

    Notice: The inertial weight section of the crankshaft balancer is assembled to the hub with a rubber type material. The correct installation procedures (with the proper tool) must be followed or movement of the inertial weight section of the hub will destroy the tuning of the crankshaft balancer.

  1. Install the crankshaft balancer using the following procedure:
  2. 1.1. Install the stud to the crankshaft.
    1.2. Thread the stud fully into the tapped hole in the crankshaft.
    1.3. Install the crankshaft balancer (external) over the end of the stud. Align the keyway in the crankshaft balancer (external) shaft with the crankshaft key. Use a small amount of RTV sealant in order to seal the crankshaft balancer (external) key to the crankshaft joint.
    1.4. Install the bearing, washer and nut on the J 23523-F .
    1.5. Turn the nut to pull the crankshaft balancer onto the crankshaft.
    1.6. Remove the J 23523-F .
  3. Install the crankshaft balancer (external) bolt and washer.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the accessory drive pulley.
  6. Install the engine cooling fan. Refer to Fan Replacement in Engine Cooling.
