Removal Procedure
Oil Filter Bypass Valve
- Remove the oil filter.
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the oil filter bypass valve.
- Inspect the bypass valve spring and valve disc for proper operation,
cracks, and damage. If replacement is needed, the oil filter bypass valve
must be replaced.
- Clean the valve chamber in the block.
Oil Filter Adapter
- Remove the oil filter.
- Remove the oil cooler lines.
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the oil filter adapter.
- Remove the gasket and seal.
Installation Procedure
Oil Filter Bypass Valve
- Install the oil filter bypass valve.
- Install the bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 26 N·m (20 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the oil filter.
- Install the engine oil, as needed.
Oil Filter Adapter
- Install the oil filter adapter gasket.
- Install the oil filter adapter.
- Install the bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 20 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the oil cooler lines.
- Install the oil filter.
- Install the engine oil, as needed.
