The Body Control Module (BCM) is capable of producing four
audible reminder tones or chimes (originated from inside the BCM) that can
be heard inside the passenger compartment. If more than one chime is required
(2 functions or more) at a point in time, only the chime with the highest
priority will be active. The chime output has a frequency of 690Hz +- 69Hz
and is capable of three repetition rates of 50/min, 100/min and 150/min.
The following functions will have a chime to alert the driver of specific
conditions. Chime rates listed in order of priority:
- Headlamp reminder -150 chimes per min.
- Key In reminder - 100 chimes per min.
- Turn Signal reminder - will chime @ turn signal flasher rate.
- Seat Belt reminder - 50 chimes per min.
Power is provided to the BCM via the BCM, Ign 1, and Cruise fuses.
Lights On Chime
The BCM will provide an audible warning intended to remind the driver
that the headlamps are left on when exiting the vehicle with the ignition
switch in the off position. With the ignition switch off, the chime will
continue to sound 150 times per minute until the headlamp switch in turned
off. The BCM receives a signal from the headlamp and panel dimmer switch
via the headlamp relay. The headlamp reminder chime will sound when all of
the following inputs to the BCM are met:
• | The park lamp input is active. |
• | The ignition 1 input is inactive. |
• | The dimming potentiometer input is not in a maximum dimming state. |
Key In Ignition Chime
The BCM will provide an audible warning intended to remind the driver
that the ignition key is in the ignition switch when exiting the vehicle.
The key in ignition chime will continue to sound 100 times per minute until
the driver door is closed or the key removed from the ignition switch. The
BCM monitors key in switch function via the key reminder switch signal from
the ignition switch. The key in reminder chime will sound when all of the
following inputs to the BCM are met:
• | The key in input is active. |
• | The driver door jamb input is active. |
• | The ignition 1 input is inactive. |
Turn Signal Chime
The BCM will provide an audible warning intended to remind the driver
that the turn signal has been left on for an extended driving distance. The
turn signal chime will sound when the turn signal is left on for a distance
of more than .75 miles. The left and right turn signal input to the BCM is
provided via LF turn signal lamp feed and RF turn signal lamp feed respectively
from the turn/hazard switch. Also, the BCM receives a vehicle speed signal
(VSS) via the vehicle speed signal circuit for speed and distance calculation.
The turn signal reminder chime will use a tone that is synchronized with
the turn signal input (and lamp) to the BCM. The turn signal reminder chime
will sound when all of the following inputs to the BCM are met:
• | Ignition 1 or ignition 3 is active. |
• | Left or right only turn signal switch is active. |
• | The vehicle has traveled further than .75 miles. (VSS
input) |
Seat Belt Chime
The BCM will provide an audible warning intended to remind the driver
to fasten the seat belt at the beginning of each drive cycle. The seat belt
switch signal to the BCM is provided via seatbelt switch signal circuit.
The seat belt chime will sound at the rate of 50 times per minute for a period
of six seconds after the initial ignition 1 input to the BCM. After six seconds
the chime will cease but the BCM will continue to send the Illuminate Fasten
Seat Belt Lamp message to the Instrument Cluster. Once the ignition is turned
on, the lamp will illuminate solidly for 20 seconds, then flash for an additional
55 seconds unless the drivers seat belt is fastened. Once the belt is fastened
or the time expires, the lamp will go off. The seat belt chime will sound
when all of the following inputs to the BCM are met:
• | The seat belt switch input to the BCM is active (unbuckled) |
• | Ignition 1 input is active. |
Park Brake Chime
The BCM will provide an audible warning intended to remind the driver
that his park brake may be on at the beginning of each drive cycle. The BCM
activates the park brake chime only when the voltage signal is low on park
brake switch circuit and vehicle speed above 3 mph is detected. The chime
will operate in conjunction with a flashing park brake indicator for any
distance the vehicle is driven.
