Models:2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid with 6.0L V8 Engine (RPO LFA)
2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid with 6.0L V8 Engine (RPO LFA)



This PI was superseded to advise dealers to contact the PQC to request Camshaft Components for 6.0L (RPO code LY6 or L76) or 6.2L (RPO L92) engines. Please discard PIP4327.


The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

As part of our ongoing quality improvement efforts regarding new technology, several components related to the Vortec 6.0L V8 (RPO LFA) will be placed on restriction through the PQC to assist Engineering with early product feedback. Your cooperation with this program is greatly appreciated.

Note: Dealers that need a Camshaft Actuator Component for a 6.0L(RPO code LY6 or L76) or 6.2L(RPO L92) engine will have to contact the PQC. The PQC will only require completion of questionnaires(see recommendation/instructions)for the Hybrid 6.0L V8 engine (RPO code LFA). For Non-Hybrid engines the part will be released upon dealer request.

Camshaft Position Actuator Assembly (P/N 12602699) Questionnaire

  1. Customer Complaint (as it reads on the RO):
  2. Has the customer's concern been duplicated?
  3. Perform diagnostics per SI Document ID# 1979006. Record values.
  4. List DTCs.
  5. Is there prior repair history? If yes, list repairs performed.
  6. Measure engine oil pressure with scan tool. Provide reading.
  7. Is engine oil level within operation range? Provide oil level.
  8. Is there any indication of incorrect engine oil viscosity, aftermarket engine oil additives, or is the engine oil overdue for a change?
  9. Perform oil pressure diagnostics. Record values.
  10. Has the unit been removed from the engine?

Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet (P/N 12585995) Questionnaire

  1. Customer Complaint (as it reads on the RO):
  2. Has the customer's concern been duplicated?
  3. Perform diagnostics per SI Document ID# 1979006. Record values.
  4. List DTCs.
  5. Is there prior repair history? If yes, list repairs performed.
  6. Measure engine oil pressure with scan tool. Provide reading.
  7. Is engine oil level within operation range? Provide oil level.
  8. Is there any indication of incorrect engine oil viscosity, aftermarket engine oil additives, or is the engine oil overdue for a change?
  9. Perform pintle movement measurement provided in SI Document ID# 1722996. Record values.
  10. Is the solenoid valve spool sticking?

Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve (P/N 12588151) Questionnaire

  1. Customer Complaint (as it reads on the RO):
  2. Has the customer's concern been duplicated?
  3. Perform diagnostics per SI Document ID# 1979006. Record values.
  4. List DTCs.
  5. Is there prior repair history? If yes, list repairs performed.
  6. Measure engine oil pressure with scan tool. Provide reading.
  7. Is engine oil level within operation range? Provide oil level.
  8. Is there any indication of incorrect engine oil viscosity, aftermarket engine oil additives, or is the engine oil overdue for a change?

Variable Displacement Oil Pump Assembly (P/N 12597734) Questionnaire

  1. Customer Complaint (as it reads on the RO):
  2. Has the customer's concern been duplicated?
  3. Is the Engine Oil light on?
  4. What is the engine oil level?
  5. What is the engine oil pressure at idle? At engine temperature? At 2000 rpm?
  6. Perform diagnostics per SI Document ID# 1969657. List steps. If diagnostics lead to oil pump replacement, do not disassemble the oil pump.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
