The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

You may experience a vehicle that has a no crank condition after the vehicle has had a very low or dead battery condition. This concern may have occurred after the vehicle was jump started by the customer or road side assistance with the vehicle key left in the "ON " position

Recommendation/Instructions:

Anytime a battery charger or booster pack is connected to the 12V battery, the ignition key should always be in the off position. If this recommendation is not followed, the Serial Data Gateway Module may report "crash sense failed", and the 300v hybrid battery contactors will open and stay open until the Hybrid Control Module is reset.

To reset the Hybrid Control Module, please use the following procedure:

  1. Make sure the 12 volt battery is fully charged
  2. Clear DTCs in all modules.
  3. Access the Serial Gateway Module's special functions screen under the body section of the Tech 2.
  4. Perform the "Crash Sensor Reset" in the Serial Data Gateway module
  5. Access the Hybrid Control Module's special functions screen
  6. Enter the "Clear 300V Present DTC" screen and hit the reset soft key at the bottom of the screen
  7. Enter the "Clear 300V Impact Detection DTC"
  8. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position
  9. Open and close the driver's door to disable the RAP (Retained Accessory Power)
  10. Wait for 3 minutes and then start the vehicle.

Notice: Engineering is working on an updated calibration to prevent the crash sensor from latching and causing a no crank condition. This PI will be updated when further information is available.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
