  1. Ensure that the mark on the camshaft timing belt pulley (2) is aligned with the V mark on the inside of the timing belt cover (1). If not, align the two marks by turning the camshaft. Do not turn the camshaft more than its allowable turning range.

  2. Object Number: 262566 Size: SH
  3. Ensure that the punch mark on the crankshaft timing belt pulley (2) is aligned with the arrow mark on the oil pump case (1). If not, align the two marks by turning the crankshaft. Do not turn the crankshaft more than its allowable turning range.

  4. Object Number: 262549 Size: SH

    Important:

       • Match the arrow mark on the timing belt with the rotating direction of the crankshaft, when installing the timing belt.
       • Ensure that the No. 4 piston is at top dead center of the compression stroke.

  5. Align the timing marks.
  6. Push the tensioner plate up.
  7. Install the timing belt.
  8. Install the tensioner spring and the spring damper. Ensure that there is no slack in the timing belt.
  9. Install the tensioner stud only.
  10. Turn the crankshaft 2 rotations clockwise after installing the timing belt. This will take up the slack in the timing belt.
  11. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  12. Tighten the timing belt tensioner stud.
  13. Tighten
Tighten the timing belt tensioner stud to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  14. Secure the timing belt tensioner bolt.
  15. Tighten
Tighten the timing belt tensioner bolt to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  16. Confirm again that both sets of timing marks are aligned properly.

  17. Object Number: 262535 Size: SH

Important: Ensure that the coolant pump-to-oil case seals and the coolant pump-to-cylinder head seals are in place before you install the timing belt cover.

  18. Install the timing belt cover (12). Secure the timing belt cover with the eight bolts and the one nut.
  19. Tighten
Tighten the timing belt cover nut and bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
