Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable (1) .
- Put
the manual selector in the NEUTRAL position.
- Remove the 4 screws (1,6,3,4) and the 2 plastic
retaining clips (2,5) from the console.
- Remove the console.
- Remove the shift lock solenoid connector (3) from under the carpet.
- Remove the shift indicator lamp (1).
- Remove the 4 bolts from the manual selector from the floor.
- Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle.

- Remove the select cable locknut (1)
and the shift select cable from the manual shift lever (4).
- Remove the shift select cable (4)
from the vehicle.
- Inspect the shift select cable for fraying or kinks.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Replace the cable as necessary.
- Remove the 2 knob screws.
- Remove the knob.
- Remove the select indicator assembly.
- Remove the select lever assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the select lever assembly.
- Install the select indicator assembly.
- Install the knob.
- Install the 2 knob screws.
- Put the manual shift lever (3) in the LOW position.
- Install the shift select cable (4)
into the shift select cable bracket at the transmission.
- Secure the shift select cable (4).
- Install the shift select cable into the
manual shift lever while moving the manual shift lever back
to the NEUTRAL position.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Important: Do not fully tighten the locknut.
- Secure the shift select cable with the select cable locknut (3).
Tighten
Tighten the shift select cable locknut to 7 N·m (62 lb in).
- Lower the vehicle. Make it possible to access both the manual selector
and the manual shift lever.
- Install the shift select cable (4)
to the selector lever.
- Secure the washer with the retaining clip (1).
- Inspect both ends of the shift select cable to ensure that no cable deflection
exists.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the manual selector to the floor.
- Secure the manual selector to the floor with the 4 bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the manual selector bolts to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).
- Install the shift indicator lamp (1).
- Install the shift lock solenoid electrical connector (3) under
the carpet.
- Install
the console box to the floor.
- Install the 4 screws (1,3,4,6) and the 2 plastic
retaining clips.
- Put the manual selector in the Park position.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
