• | Inspect the steering gear, the reservoir, and the pump for the
following conditions: |
- | An overfilled reservoir |
- | Loose fitting pipe/hose connections |
• | Perform the following procedure when the vehicle requires service: |
- | Clean the leakage area upon disassembly. |
- | Replace the leaking seal. |
- | Inspect the component sealing surfaces for damage. |
• | The following conditions may indicate a leak in the power steering
system: |
- | There is fluid leakage on the garage floor. |
- | There are fluid leaks visible on the steering gear or the pump. |
- | There is a growling noise coming from the steering gear or the
pump. The noise is especially noticeable when parking the vehicle or when
the engine is cold. |
- | There is a loss of power steering when parking the vehicle. |
- | There is a heavy steering effort. |
