For 1990-2009 cars only
    • Inspect the steering gear, the reservoir, and the pump for the following conditions:
       - An overfilled reservoir
       - Fluid aeration
       - Fluid overflow
       - Loose fitting pipe/hose connections
    • Perform the following procedure when the vehicle requires service:
       - Clean the leakage area upon disassembly.
       - Replace the leaking seal.
       - Inspect the component sealing surfaces for damage.
       - Reset the bolt torque to specifications where required. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
    • The following conditions may indicate a leak in the power steering system:
       - There is fluid leakage on the garage floor.
       - There are fluid leaks visible on the steering gear or the pump.
       - There is a growling noise coming from the steering gear or the pump. The noise is especially noticeable when parking the vehicle or when the engine is cold.
       - There is a loss of power steering when parking the vehicle.
       - There is a heavy steering effort.
    • Inspect for an external leak in the power steering system when you are troubleshooting these types of problems. Refer to External Leakage Check
