J 6627-A Tie Rod Puller

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  3. Object Number: 461507  Size: SH
  4. Remove the outer tie rod nut (1) from the knuckle (2).

  5. Object Number: 789694  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the outer tie rod end (3) from the knuckle (2) using the J 6627-A .

  7. Object Number: 461511  Size: SH
  8. Place a match mark, using paint, on the inner tie rod thread (2) indicating the position of the tie rod lock nut (3).
  9. Loosen the tie rod lock nut and remove the outer tie rod end (4) from the inner tie rod (1)

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 461729  Size: SH
  1. Install the tie rod lock nut (3) to the match mark on the inner tie rod (1). Do NOT tighten the lock nut.
  2. Install the outer tie rod end (7) to the inner tie rod (1).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Important: When tightening the outer tie rod nut, support and push the outer tie rod end with a jack in order to prevent the ball stud from rotating.

  4. Install the outer tie rod end (7) to the knuckle (5), and install the outer tie rod nut (4).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 43 N·m (31.5 lb ft).

  6. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  7. Measure the wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment.

  8. Object Number: 461749  Size: SH
  9. Adjust the toe, if necessary. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment in Wheel Alignment.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the tie rod lock nut (2) to 65 N·m (47 lb ft).

  11. Lower the vehicle.
