- Vehicles involved in accidents resulting in frame damage, sheet
metal damage, steering column impact, or SIR deployment may also have a damaged
or misaligned steering column.
Inspect the following components for damage. Repair or replace as necessary.

• | The lower steering shaft |
- Inspect the following components for damage. Repair or replace as necessary.
• | The power steering pump (1) |
• | The power steering fluid reservoir (3) |
• | The steering gear boots |
- Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to

- Inspect the steering column support bracket. Refer to
Steering Column Support Bracket Inspection
.
- If any components impacted the steering column, remove the steering
column. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
.
- Inspect the steering column jacket and the steering column lower
seal. Measure the length of the steering column. Refer to
Steering Column Jacket Inspection
