Removal Procedure

    Important: In the event of deployment, inspect the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) coil assembly wire for any signs of scorching, melting or other damage due to excessive heat. If there is damage to the coil assembly, replace the coil assembly.

  1. Disable the SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
  2. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Standard or Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  3. Remove the IP steering column opening trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  4. Object Number: 477498  Size: SH
  5. Remove the 3 screws from the steering column lower cover (2).
  6. Separate the upper cover and the lower cover, then remove them.
  7. Disconnect all connectors for the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil and combination switch assembly.
  8. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil and combination switch assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 464173  Size: SH
  1. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil and combination switch (1) to the steering column.
  2. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil and combination switch electrical connectors (3,4).
  3. Secure the SIR coil and combination switch wiring harness to the steering column with the retaining bands.
  4. Install the upper steering column cover  and the lower steering column cover  to the steering column.

  5. Object Number: 477498  Size: SH
  6. Secure the steering column covers with the 3 screws (2).
  7. Install the IP steering column opening trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  8. Install the steering wheel to the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Standard or Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
