Instrument Cluster

The instrument cluster includes the following gauges:

    • The speedometer (9)
    • The engine tachometer (14)
    • The fuel/engine coolant temperature gauge (5,6)

Refer to Speedometer Replacement , Instrument Cluster Replacement and Fuel/Temperature Gage Replacement for the removal and installation procedures.

Important: When replacing a speedometer or an odometer assembly, the law requires the odometer reading of the replacement unit to be set to register the same mileage as the prior odometer.

If the same mileage cannot be set, then the law requires the following actions to take place:

   • Set the replacement odometer at zero
   • Install a label on the driver's door frame showing the following information:
   • The previous odometer reading
   • The date of replacement

The speedometer (9) consists of a trip odometer and a total mileage odometer. The vehicle speed sensor provides the vehicle speed information to the PCM. The speedometer, trip odometer and the total mileage odometer are serviceable as a unit only. The speedometer unit however is serviceable separate from the instrument cluster.

The instrument cluster includes the following indicators:

    • 4WD (1), if equipped
    • CRUISE (2), if equipped
    • ABS (3), if the vehicle is equipped with an antilock brake system
    • Turn signals (4,15)
    • O/D OFF (7), if the vehicle is equipped with the 4-speed A/T
    • POWER (8) , if the vehicle is equipped with the 4-speed A/T
    • BRAKE (10)
    • Fasten seat belt (11)
    • Charging system (12)
    • Oil pressure (13)
    • AIR BAG (16)
    • High beam (17)
    • SERVICE ENGINE SOON (18)

The indicators are serviceable from the rear of the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Bulb Replacement for the instrument cluster lamp removal and installation procedures. The instrument cluster indicators may differ slightly from model to model, depending on the options.
