System OK

Does the vehicle have an automatic transmission?

Place the automatic transmission shift lever in Park.

Does the lock system lock?

System OK

Inspect the automatic transmission park lock cable for binding or damage.

Is the automatic transmission park lock cable binding or damaged?

Go to Step 7

Inspect steering column lock and ignition switch cylinder for damage.

Is the steering column lock and ignition switch cylinder damaged?

Replace the automatic transmission park lock cable. Refer to Shift Lock Control Cable Replacement in Shift Lock Control.
